K. Beauty Products

IMG_0356I am in LOVE with Korean beauty products! I get excited when I can add to my collection. These are a few products that I have recently bought and tried out. I am here to tell you how they were and where I found them.

So the first is the Hell-Pore Clean Up Mask IMG_0473.JPGThis is a face peeling mask, other reviews I’ve read said it hurt when they peeled it off. I think it’s based on the pain tolerance everyone can stand, because it pulled at the skin a little, but that the point, you’re trying to pull white heads, black heads and dead skin cells from your face. When you’re applying it, put a thin layer on, don’t put it on thick because when you go to peel it off it will still be sticky. So I give this product a 7 out of 10. I got this at a Korean beauty store in China Town New York, but you can go onto Amazon and find this or onto the makers website which you will see in the product itself.

The next product is the compact face powder by TonyMoly.IMG_0472.JPGAnother reason why I love K Beauty products is because more often than not, the products and the packaging is adorable! This one included, this is a Pokémon themed product, TonyMoly has a line of Pokémon themed beauty products. This one is featuring JigglyPuff. I actually really like this foundation, I usually use liquid foundation, but this is good to take on the go and keep in your bag. If you start sweating off your makeup or wipe a little off this can be busted out to fix that. It has pretty good coverage and mattes your face if you don’t want a shiny face. I got this in the same store as the face peel mask, but if you go onto TonyMoly’s website you can find it there as well.

The third thing I tried out was the teatree and egg foaming oil. I didn’t even want to take a picture of this because I did not like it at all. When I used it, it didn’t even foam very well and I did not like the smell very well either. They had other scents to choose from, but teatree usually smells pretty nice. And then I didn’t feel anything after using it, I didn’t feel refreshed, my skin didn’t feel moisturized and I just felt like I wasted my money. I got this product at TjMaxx.

There is still hope for egg based products, the last one is the Egg-Stra hydrating mask be Revive. IMG_0474This mask was actually pretty nice, it had a mixed scent of coconut so the smell was relaxing, it felt like I was on vacation at the beach. I had it on for 15 minutes, and after taking it off and taking the excess moisture off, my face felt refreshed and the next morning it was soft and it still smelled a little like coconuts. I also found this product at TJMaxx.

Surprise Weekend Trip to New York Pt. 2

I am so horrible! Life has been so crazy, and I need to make more time to sit down and write because this is what I want to do with my life. I have so many things that I would like to share and say. So after this, I HAVE to get myself together and write more.

Where we left off was the first day of my New York trip that my boyfriend surprised me with. So we shall continue on with the journey. The second day went great! There weren’t any rude men walking around throwing shade at anyone. It was just inhumanly humid the second day while walking around. The temperature reached 90 degrees. But it was made up with all the delicious food we ate that day.

We made it our day if eating, because that’s what we basically did all day. We slept through breakfast, but we went to Gotham West Market for lunch. It was not what I expected when we walked into the large building. When you walk in, you’re met with different aromas. There are an abundance of different food selections you can choose from. Everything is in the same room, but they had a cafe/bakery, an ice cream bar, a station that had burgers, fries, shakes and other foods that go with burgers. A station that has sushi burritos, the station that Mike and I went to served different kinds or ramen and steam buns. Let me just tell you…..IT WAS AMAZING. I got the shrimp steak bun, and it was overwhelmingly delicious. The ramen was good, just a little too salty for my liking. IMG_0258We then went back to Chinatown because we had to get a snack there. One of Mike and I’s favorite places is an ice cream shop called Eggloo. It’s a small shop that you wouldn’t notice since it’s on the side of a building. But you go in and sometimes there’s a long wait because it’s pretty popular. When it’s finally your turn you get to choose the flavor of your waffle cone, I always get green tea, with chocolate ice cream. You then have a choice of endless toppings you can pick from. And when you try your first bite, you can say it was worth the wait. IMG_0253.JPGAfter our snack we were pretty stuffed. So we walked around for a bit longer, then decided to go back to rest a little before dinner. For dinner we decided to go to the family style restaurant Carmines. We underestimated the family style part because when we got our food it was huge! We got stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, which were pretty good just a little spicy. We then got an order of ravioli with cheese, and that’s all we ordered because it was big enough for 5 people to eat. But it was all tasty. After the large meal we ordered some cheesecake to go and then got an uber back to our B&B.

Just in case you don’t know, unless it’s just me. There is a difference between New York cheesecake, and Italian cheesecake. New York cheesecake is creamier and thick, while Italian cheesecake is made with ricotta and it’s ‘fluffy’. So I did not really enjoy the cheesecake since I’m used to the Nee York style. But out that in your pocket before you order.

The next morning I we had to pack up and get ready to leave. But not before trying to finish the new season of OITNB (Orange is the New Black). We were almost late to check out but we made it. The crazy day didn’t end there though. I wanted to go to Times Square before we caught the bus so that I could go to Carlo’s Bakery. I wanted to pick up my mom some cannolis. But then Mike said we have and hour before we get on the bus, so that we should get some lunch. That was our first mistake. We went to subway and waited until 20 minutes before we caught our bus, but we had to drive another 10 minutes to get to the Mega Bus stop. When I ordered an Uber the guy didn’t know where to pick us up or where to go, I was stressed because I didn’t want to miss the bus. The driver still hadn’t come yet so Mike ordered an Uber, which came on time. Mine kept calling me so I decided to ignore him thinking that he would just cancel the trip. I was wrong, he charged me as if I took the trip and then double for making him wait. So I had to contact Uber asking for a refund.

I don’t know how we did it, but we made the bus on time. So we settled in for the 6 hour bus ride back home.

Surprise Weekend Trip to New York

This past week was my 20th birthday. And the weeks before it my boyfriend kept telling me that my gift was a surprise, and would give me clues here and there on what it could be. Mind you that they were horrible hints, he said it was green, red, and yellow…..so a traffic light. Well no, it was a trip to New York City. He said the green was the Statue of Liberty, the yellow was for the cabs, and red made no sense,  he said it was for the fire of the torch of the Statue of Liberty.

No matter what odd clues he gave me I didn’t really see this coming. We left on Friday the 19th at 11 pm, we took the Mega Bus and it was a very long six hour bus ride. But when I saw my favorite view in the whole world come into view I didn’t even feel tired anymore, or the cramps in my legs. When the sun rises behind the New York sky line it is breathtaking.

This was our second time returning together to the great city. We stayed at St. Nicholas B&B that’s located in Harlem. It’s a great place to stay, the subway is literally a 30 second walk from the residency. The price isn’t horrible, the gentleman who runs the B&B serves   a fresh breakfast every morning, and did I mention the price isn’t horrible for staying in New York City?

We were only in the city for two days, but they were a great two days with the goofy guy I call my boyfriend.

IMG_3951It was an incredible birthday trip, however, the weather was not on our side this past weekend. The first day, well the same day we arrived, we took a two hour power nap after getting there at six in the morning. We went to Chinatown and Soho where it poured down rain. When we got onto the subway it was fine outside, when we were leaving…it was raining so hard where you would be soaked head-to-toe the first minute you step into it.

The first day was just filled with a few shopping trips, one being where I had to buy rain boots because my shoes were completely soaked through to my socks.

Since it is my birthday month, I had to make the trip to Sephora to get my birthday gift. My life has become complete since I have finally made it to VIB ROUGE, I don’t think I can keep up with it because you have to be constantly spending money there, and being a poor college kid doesn’t help. Some would call me crazy spending my money there instead of maybe saving it. But they are all like my children…..ok dramatic and off topic. I got the little Tarte gift that included a blush and mini liquid matte lipstick. I got a few other things that I am going to try out.IMG_4081Travel

We also took a stop to the Chobani restaurant they have in Soho, I got the blueberry and granola yogurt. Very tasty. We then went to the Birch Box store, the collaboration box they have with Vogue was very tempting, it had all rose scented or infused products in the box. I actually decided not to get anything there. Actually, my mood was ruined in the middle of that day. While walking in Soho a man shouted at me “sexyyyy” but it was in a very sarcastic/asshole way. Since it had rained my hair was a mess, my makeup did not look the same as how I had put it earlier that day, and I had rain boots that went to my knee while my black overall denim dress went just above the knee. So there was about two inches of leg showing (I didn’t take a picture of that outfit, but I’ll have to post one later).

Before he had said the comment I was having a good day, the rain didn’t bother me, I was just glad to be there. I don’t know, just after he said it, it got to me. I looked at myself in a store window and didn’t see a girl having a good day, I just saw a hot mess. Thinking back on it now, I shouldn’t have let that ass get to me. I should have told him to shove it and kept on walking like I’m the fucking queen of New York. It’s just very easy to go back to old ways of getting down on yourself when someone pokes at your self-esteem.

After looking around the Birch Box store I just wanted to go back to where we were staying. I love Mike dearly, but he doesn’t catch onto things very quickly, and at times doesn’t know how to help the situation. But after we got back I told him what happened and he said something that actually helped, “fuck that guy, he’s just an egotistical ass.” We then spent the rest of the night getting Chinese takeout and binge watching Orange is the New Black. So all in all, it was an interesting/good first day.

Summer Lush Favorites

All year long I use Lush products, but during the summer there are a select few that have grown on me. Lush is a very huge favorite of mine, they are cruelty free and use all organic products. And that is very helpful when you have sensitive skin. So here are a few of the products that I have found to be pretty awesome.

IMG_0174The fresh face mask, Rosy Cheeks, is a cool and refreshing mask to use at night after a long hot day. You can use this anytime, but I liked to use it at night because it would be cold on the face. Like I said before, I have sensitive skin and this also doesn’t have a potent smell so this product is a win/win. IMG_0233The Ladybug Bubble Bar is another light smelling but soothing bath time favorite. It has a scent between fruity and floral but it’s pleasant. Also the shape is fun for the season, it gets you in the spring time mood. Just in case you don’t know how bubble bars work, I like to use a metal strainer of some sort. I mash a little in the strainer, then let the water run over it to create bubbles. IMG_0230So last but no least, is the Sesame Suntan Lotion. You can only get this in the European or non-American stores or online at the U.K. Lush Kitchen store. I have this lovely product because my one friend picked it up for me while she was in Sweden. But in America they test sunscreens on animals, so Lush won’t sell it here; which is understandable. But it’s a great product because you get sun protection while also getting tan. When you first put it on you will smell like a sesame bagel, but after a little the scent goes away. This is my first summer using this product, and I can say it will be a future favorite.

Hello Readers

Hello all! Or hello to whoever may be reading this. This isn’t my first blog, but hopefully this will be the first blog that I continue with. Over the years I have had ideas that I wanted to share with people about beauty and fashion, but I have always gotten sidetracked, or busy with work and school. But no excuses this time, I really want to continue to post to the blog every week.

But anyways, I know there’s an about page that I put a facts about myself on, but why not describe myself a little more.

I am 19 years-old, and about to be a junior in college. I’m studying journalism to hopefully one day become a beauty editor for a fashion magazine. The dream is to work for Vogue, Allure, or Nylon magazine.

I didn’t think I would like to write for a career, because I wasn’t very good at it in high school. As I got older, and had better professors in college who expanded my writing skills, I became more confident in my writing and actually started enjoying it. I even decided to join the university’s newspaper.

The one story I wrote about for the school’s paper was about what plus-sized women and girls wear for summer to stay chic but comfortable.

As a girl who has a little extra to love herself, I could understand the topic first hand. I still asked other girls their opinion on the subject as well. However, as I started writing I couldn’t just write about clothing bigger girls wear, but how they feel about being called or shopping in the “plus-sized” section.

The girls I interviewed were very honest with me, and said that they felt uncomfortable, and that the word separated them from other women. That they were “different”.

I thought I could start a blog about loving yourself inside and out, giving tips on beauty, and fashion. What I use and bought, or just anything I’m thinking about. I feel like if I leave this blog for anything to write about, it will make me write more.

So hopefully people enjoy reading what I put out and keep coming back!
