Surprise Weekend Trip to New York Pt. 2

I am so horrible! Life has been so crazy, and I need to make more time to sit down and write because this is what I want to do with my life. I have so many things that I would like to share and say. So after this, I HAVE to get myself together and write more.

Where we left off was the first day of my New York trip that my boyfriend surprised me with. So we shall continue on with the journey. The second day went great! There weren’t any rude men walking around throwing shade at anyone. It was just inhumanly humid the second day while walking around. The temperature reached 90 degrees. But it was made up with all the delicious food we ate that day.

We made it our day if eating, because that’s what we basically did all day. We slept through breakfast, but we went to Gotham West Market for lunch. It was not what I expected when we walked into the large building. When you walk in, you’re met with different aromas. There are an abundance of different food selections you can choose from. Everything is in the same room, but they had a cafe/bakery, an ice cream bar, a station that had burgers, fries, shakes and other foods that go with burgers. A station that has sushi burritos, the station that Mike and I went to served different kinds or ramen and steam buns. Let me just tell you…..IT WAS AMAZING. I got the shrimp steak bun, and it was overwhelmingly delicious. The ramen was good, just a little too salty for my liking. IMG_0258We then went back to Chinatown because we had to get a snack there. One of Mike and I’s favorite places is an ice cream shop called Eggloo. It’s a small shop that you wouldn’t notice since it’s on the side of a building. But you go in and sometimes there’s a long wait because it’s pretty popular. When it’s finally your turn you get to choose the flavor of your waffle cone, I always get green tea, with chocolate ice cream. You then have a choice of endless toppings you can pick from. And when you try your first bite, you can say it was worth the wait. IMG_0253.JPGAfter our snack we were pretty stuffed. So we walked around for a bit longer, then decided to go back to rest a little before dinner. For dinner we decided to go to the family style restaurant Carmines. We underestimated the family style part because when we got our food it was huge! We got stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, which were pretty good just a little spicy. We then got an order of ravioli with cheese, and that’s all we ordered because it was big enough for 5 people to eat. But it was all tasty. After the large meal we ordered some cheesecake to go and then got an uber back to our B&B.

Just in case you don’t know, unless it’s just me. There is a difference between New York cheesecake, and Italian cheesecake. New York cheesecake is creamier and thick, while Italian cheesecake is made with ricotta and it’s ‘fluffy’. So I did not really enjoy the cheesecake since I’m used to the Nee York style. But out that in your pocket before you order.

The next morning I we had to pack up and get ready to leave. But not before trying to finish the new season of OITNB (Orange is the New Black). We were almost late to check out but we made it. The crazy day didn’t end there though. I wanted to go to Times Square before we caught the bus so that I could go to Carlo’s Bakery. I wanted to pick up my mom some cannolis. But then Mike said we have and hour before we get on the bus, so that we should get some lunch. That was our first mistake. We went to subway and waited until 20 minutes before we caught our bus, but we had to drive another 10 minutes to get to the Mega Bus stop. When I ordered an Uber the guy didn’t know where to pick us up or where to go, I was stressed because I didn’t want to miss the bus. The driver still hadn’t come yet so Mike ordered an Uber, which came on time. Mine kept calling me so I decided to ignore him thinking that he would just cancel the trip. I was wrong, he charged me as if I took the trip and then double for making him wait. So I had to contact Uber asking for a refund.

I don’t know how we did it, but we made the bus on time. So we settled in for the 6 hour bus ride back home.

Surprise Weekend Trip to New York

This past week was my 20th birthday. And the weeks before it my boyfriend kept telling me that my gift was a surprise, and would give me clues here and there on what it could be. Mind you that they were horrible hints, he said it was green, red, and yellow…..so a traffic light. Well no, it was a trip to New York City. He said the green was the Statue of Liberty, the yellow was for the cabs, and red made no sense,  he said it was for the fire of the torch of the Statue of Liberty.

No matter what odd clues he gave me I didn’t really see this coming. We left on Friday the 19th at 11 pm, we took the Mega Bus and it was a very long six hour bus ride. But when I saw my favorite view in the whole world come into view I didn’t even feel tired anymore, or the cramps in my legs. When the sun rises behind the New York sky line it is breathtaking.

This was our second time returning together to the great city. We stayed at St. Nicholas B&B that’s located in Harlem. It’s a great place to stay, the subway is literally a 30 second walk from the residency. The price isn’t horrible, the gentleman who runs the B&B serves   a fresh breakfast every morning, and did I mention the price isn’t horrible for staying in New York City?

We were only in the city for two days, but they were a great two days with the goofy guy I call my boyfriend.

IMG_3951It was an incredible birthday trip, however, the weather was not on our side this past weekend. The first day, well the same day we arrived, we took a two hour power nap after getting there at six in the morning. We went to Chinatown and Soho where it poured down rain. When we got onto the subway it was fine outside, when we were leaving…it was raining so hard where you would be soaked head-to-toe the first minute you step into it.

The first day was just filled with a few shopping trips, one being where I had to buy rain boots because my shoes were completely soaked through to my socks.

Since it is my birthday month, I had to make the trip to Sephora to get my birthday gift. My life has become complete since I have finally made it to VIB ROUGE, I don’t think I can keep up with it because you have to be constantly spending money there, and being a poor college kid doesn’t help. Some would call me crazy spending my money there instead of maybe saving it. But they are all like my children…..ok dramatic and off topic. I got the little Tarte gift that included a blush and mini liquid matte lipstick. I got a few other things that I am going to try out.IMG_4081Travel

We also took a stop to the Chobani restaurant they have in Soho, I got the blueberry and granola yogurt. Very tasty. We then went to the Birch Box store, the collaboration box they have with Vogue was very tempting, it had all rose scented or infused products in the box. I actually decided not to get anything there. Actually, my mood was ruined in the middle of that day. While walking in Soho a man shouted at me “sexyyyy” but it was in a very sarcastic/asshole way. Since it had rained my hair was a mess, my makeup did not look the same as how I had put it earlier that day, and I had rain boots that went to my knee while my black overall denim dress went just above the knee. So there was about two inches of leg showing (I didn’t take a picture of that outfit, but I’ll have to post one later).

Before he had said the comment I was having a good day, the rain didn’t bother me, I was just glad to be there. I don’t know, just after he said it, it got to me. I looked at myself in a store window and didn’t see a girl having a good day, I just saw a hot mess. Thinking back on it now, I shouldn’t have let that ass get to me. I should have told him to shove it and kept on walking like I’m the fucking queen of New York. It’s just very easy to go back to old ways of getting down on yourself when someone pokes at your self-esteem.

After looking around the Birch Box store I just wanted to go back to where we were staying. I love Mike dearly, but he doesn’t catch onto things very quickly, and at times doesn’t know how to help the situation. But after we got back I told him what happened and he said something that actually helped, “fuck that guy, he’s just an egotistical ass.” We then spent the rest of the night getting Chinese takeout and binge watching Orange is the New Black. So all in all, it was an interesting/good first day.
